Electrical Technician (TX)/Electrician

Electrician Program Overview

Electricians bring the electricity you need into your home and workplace. They install, maintain, repair and replace the cables, wires and connections that deliver the power used every second of every day. They help make sure electrical systems are safe and secure. When the power fails due to bad weather, transformer breakdowns or other issues, they move to quickly restore the flow of energy.

At Altierus, you can get the scientific, technical and mathematical skills you need to qualify for electrician assistant and apprentice positions across the United States. Our Electrician instructors are industry professionals who provide a hands-on classroom experience for their students. You'll learn in a modern workshop setting using real tools of the trade.

Note: Program schedules and availability vary by campus.

Electrician Courses

At Altierus, you can get the education and training you need to begin working as a professional electrician. Our Electrician career training program is designed to provide you with the education, training and experience you need to qualify for entry-level positions in this exciting field.* Available at Altierus campuses throughout the United States, this Electrician career training program can have you prepared and ready to work in about a year.

The courses in our Electrician program cover a wide range of relevant topics. They cover the theory and practice of electrical power and transmission, including the proper maintenance and repair of electrical equipment. You'll learn how to use the hand and diagnostic tools electricians commonly use in the field. There's a strong emphasis on safety, as electricity is extremely dangerous as well as extremely useful.

Electrician students will get the opportunity to study subjects including:

You'll learn from experienced industry professionals who know what today's employers demand. Since classes are small, you can get the personal attention you may require. And Altierus offers flexible class schedules, so you can get your training and still attend to work or family obligations.

Note: This Electrician program description is not necessarily reflective of every Electrician program offered across all Altierus campuses. This is a summary of general topics learned within most schools. Please check your campus catalog for specific details about what is taught in the Electrician program near you.

Electrician Careers

When you graduate from our Electrician career training program, you can be qualified to compete for jobs as an entry-level electrician's assistant or apprentice. These are the first steps on a long, somewhat standardized career path that can eventually take you to the level of journeyman electrician and, ultimately, master electrician.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 14% increase in the number of jobs available for both apprentice electricians and fully qualified electricians through 2024. The BLS considers that growth "much faster" than average for all occupations.

Electricians are usually employed in either construction or industrial maintenance. Some electricians work in both fields, but most focus on a single specialty. Electricians specializing in construction work install wiring systems in factories, businesses and new homes. Industrial electricians install, repair and upgrade electrical systems in factories, refineries and similar large-scale industrial facilities.

Note: Program availability, version and schedules vary by campus. Please check your campus catalog for specific details about which electrician programs are available.

* Employment is not guaranteed. Your own hard work, professionalism, attitude, and other factors impact your employment opportunities and pay.
